Vivien Leigh on the set of Gone with the Wind, circa early 1939
It’s very rare to see photos of Vivien Leigh without any make-up. Her fans knew Vivien Leigh the star - the public persona, but here we see Vivien Leigh the actual person. Nearing 50, she looked better in a jumper with her natural curly hair and without make-up than I do at 20-something with make-up. Cruel world!
She is pictured (second from left) with costume designer Beatrice “Bumble” Dawson, Robert Helpmann and Consuelo Langton-Lockton at Tickerage Mill circa 1961. Photo by her end-of-life companion Jack Merivale
